The apron is synonymous with cooking lovingly and respectfully. Indeed, just to put it on we must bow our head slightly, as if we stood before a king or queen. I remember how my mother and my grandmother used to tie a knot in their aprons so that I could wear them, and even then they reached my feet. I also remember that liberating moment when you throw it off to join the feast at a table, which nowadays I always add to by letting my hair down, just my little habits.
